11/30/99 This document describes the steps to be taken to upgrade a 6611 MPNP router to the latest code levels. It is recommended that any customer attempting to make their 6611s Y2K ready go to level V1R4 NP00648, though NP00644 + FX64402 is the minimum required level to be Y2K ready. Broadly there are 3 scenarios described depending on the level a 6611 is currently running at .. 1) When migrating from a pre-NP00600 level on V1R3, or any levels at below V1R3 (including all levels of release 1 and release 2), the only migration mechanism feasible is to rewrite the hard disk contents with a CE Tape. (CE TAPB3). CONSIDERATIONS: KEEP IN MIND THAT AFTER THIS STEP THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN REVERT TO THE CURRENT LEVELS. ALSO YOU SHOULD CONVERT YOUR CURRENT CONFIGURATIONS TO NP00668 LEVELS AND SAVE IT TO A DISKETTE BEFORE YOU PERFORM THE TAPE RESTORE. THIS DISKETTE SHOULD THEN BE INSERTED IN THE DRIVE WHEN THE ROUTER IPSs AFTER THE RESTORE. 2) When upgrading from V1R3 at NP00600 or greater, you should apply NP99935 and activate it, taking you to V1R4 at NP00648. At this time you do not have to commit NP99935. Until you do commit NP99935 you can allways revert to your current levels by deactivating NP99935 However, until you commit NP99935, the 6611 router's software vital product data will continue to show it to be at the current level of V1R3 + NP99935. After NP99935 is committed, the software vital product data will show it to be at V1R4 + NP00648. CONSIDERATIONS: YOU SHOULD CONVERT YOUR CURRENT CONFIGURATIONS TO APPROPRIATE LEVELS BY READING IT INTO A CONFIGURATION TOOL AT NP00668 LEVEL. THE TOOL WILL AUTOMATICALLY CONVERT IT TO THE CORRECT LEVEL. YOU CAN THEN SCHEDULE IT TO BE APPLIED AT UPGRADE AND THEN SEND IT TO THE ROUTER OR JUST SAVE IT TO A DISKETTE AND INSERT IT IN THE 6611'S DRIVE BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO ACTIVATE IT. FAILURE TO DO THIS STEP WILL RESULT IN THE 6611 DROPPING OUT OF THE NETWORK WHEN IT IS UPGRADED LEVEL. 3) If you are starting from some level of V1R4.0 (NP0062X series of PTFs) or V1R4.1 (NP0064X series of PTFs) below NP00648 Simply apply NP00648 and then activate it. Again you don't have to commit it and until you commit you can still revert to your current levels.
